La Femme Nuage, Scented Art Exhibition

Contemporary painter Yuliya Martynova and perfumer Gabriel De Carvalho have joined forces to craft a truly immersive art experience in the Community Gallery.

A line of golden scent bottles stand on a wooden board with paper strips in front of each. Behind these is a colourful painting with a floral and cloudlike feel in oranges and blues.

In this exhibition, Yuliya unveils six pivotal chapters from her life, each embodied by a female figure who deeply influenced her journey. Drawing from these personal stories, Gabriel creates a rich, multi-layered olfactory experience, using scent to evoke the essence of each character and amplify their impact in ways that transcend the visual.

The series coincides with Yuliya’s 10th anniversary as a full-time artist. For the past decade, dramatic skies have inspired her palette, blending opulence and simplicity on canvas. Yuliya redefines portraiture, comparing celestial entities to womankind. Rather than focusing on the easily altered exterior, she highlights abstract qualities of female beauty. She argues that women, like nature, are powerful, temperamental, and sentimental, making clouds a perfect metaphor for these ethereal traits.
