Family Friendly Museum
The River & Rowing Museum is a founder member of the Thames Valley Museums Group (TVMG) and was instrumental in establishing the current Family Friendly Museum’s campaign.
Appeal to the whole family
The Family Friendly campaign is a scheme which brings together 29 museums across Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, to promote their popular appeal to the whole family.

Family Charter
All the museums in the scheme have signed-up to a Family Friendly Charter and completed an audit of facilities and activities alongside training for members of staff.

Tips for enjoying your family visit
Explore
You don’t have to see everything in one visit – you can always come back again and there might be something different to do. The River & Rowing Museum 12 month ticket or Membership lets you come back time and again.
Take time
A visit to a museum gives you an opportunity to explore different ages. You can find thousands of objects varying from ancient swords to modern racing boats.
Look
Have a look around and familiarise yourself. Take a quick look at all the objects, then maybe choose just one or two to focus on. You might look for the biggest, smallest, heaviest or oldest objects. Think of what they are made of, or who might have used the objects.
Imagine
A museum can be a place of wonder and magic. Let your imagination run riot. What would it be like to be a Roman soldier or an Olympic rower?
Talk
Museums don’t have to be silent places. Talk about what you see during your visit. What was your favourite moment or object? Did anything surprise you? Did anything scare you? Our staff always enjoy answering questions like these!/p>
Create
Feel free to bring pencils and paper to the Museum to do some drawing. You might like to draw your favourite object or create your own story. Just remember no paints or felt tips, wax crayons, pastels or chalks please.
Have Fun
Above all, have fun in the Museum and enjoy your visit!
